After being missing for 536 days, a cat jumps back into his mother’s arms

Must Read

After receiving a call from animal control, this pet owner felt she’d lost her cat for good. However, a sweet twist of fate lead them to find each other. She hasn’t been seen in 536 days!

Cat was adopted by Mindy Criner and her husband Luke from the Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter in Virginia. The feline was initially somewhat timid.

He liked to sit in the corner and watch the other cats play, but Mindy understood that he did so because he lacked one thing in his life: a family who would adore him.

“I hope that our story will give others missing their pets hope, and maybe those who have unknowingly taken in someone else’s pet will check to see if they’re scanned so that pet can have their happy reunion with their family, and someone else can feel the overwhelming joy we’re experiencing,”

She told The Dodo, “You could see in his eyes he just needed love.”

Cat ultimately warmed up to his new family and home after some time and effort. Cat was ecstatic when Mindy and Luke had a child, and he adored him.

That’s when his parents realized they had made the right choice in adopting and giving the shy kitten a chance.

Cat found an activity he enjoyed doing once he had warmed up to his surroundings — walking around the yard and exploring outside his home. After his customary stroll, Mindy called him in, but Cat was nowhere to be seen.

Mindy became concerned and quickly contacted the owner of the Lost & Found Pets – Hampton Roads, VA, Facebook group for assistance in publicizing her missing pet. She and her husband went to work, trying everything they could to reunite Cat with her family.

They placed a litter box and food outside in the hopes that Cat would smell it. They placed little dwelling stations across the neighborhood and had pals check them whenever they had the opportunity.

They also plastered flyers all over the place. They walked all around the neighborhood every night, yelling Cat’s name, but he was nowhere to be found.

“Weeks turned to a year, then a little more and every day that crack in my broken heart got a little bigger,” Mindy added.

Missy received a call from animal control 536 days after Cat went missing, saying that he had been located.

“I thought it had to be a mistake,” she explained. “The voicemail from the animal control said to get in touch with Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter to find him.”

“I drove to that shelter as fast as the law allowed and walked through the door already fighting back tears.”

When she arrived at the shelter, she was told that a guy had been feeding Cat for over a year because he assumed he was a stray.

The man phoned animal control after Cat was hit by a car and survived. They examined him for a microchip and discovered that he did indeed belong to someone.

Mindy made contact with the man and drove over to his residence. Cat was sitting on the porch eating his lunch when she came.

Mindy recounted, “I sat on the steps and let him come over to me in case he was scared, and he got right in my lap and purred.”

“I started walking towards the car where my husband (who has an incredibly distinctive voice), Luke, was talking to the guy that had been feeding him and Cat purred louder than I knew possible and gave me that first super long head boop. It’s like he nudged that little piece of my broken heart back in place.”

Cat knew it was time for him to return home as soon as he saw his folks. And as soon as he returned, Cat was right at home.

He greeted his furry siblings and claimed all of the places he’d previously occupied as if he’d never left.

Mindy and Luke have been spending as much time as they can with Cat and getting to know each other again.
